There is a perception amongst many western males that Asian women make "good wives". This is true. Yes it is. In fact, the funny thing is that pretty much any racial type of female is capable of making a good wife.

The idea that Asian women are more submissive is absurd to the extreme. And yet this is the bottom line of many western males thinking. It appears to me to be more common amongst the European males than, say for example, Australians or Americans, although they often harbor these rather weird ideas.

Let me tell you how it works. If a woman comes from a society in which female submissive attitude needs to be displayed by women to perpetuate whatever stupid male enforced social structure is popular in the region - women will often display such attitude rather than being stoned to death or whatever other punishment the pig males dish out.

You take that woman out of that sick environment and let me assure you - she is no longer submissive. Your average Thai woman is anything but submissive. Given the chance they tend to the opposite end of the scales, very assertive indeed.

I have seen this phenomena so many times. "She used to be so quiet"… how many times have I heard that? Humans are not submissive by nature. Women want power just as much as men do. I guess they have just gotten used to being the underdogs of the whole world.

Thai women are not treated as badly as, say, the Pakistani or Arabic woman who really is relegated to a social level equal to horses or furniture. The Thai male is not so heavy. But still they do not show proper respect to women even though a very important part of their culture is based on maternal images. But like most men, they bend the rules to suit themselves.

A Thai woman married to a Thai man may well behave in what appears to be a submissive manner. This is just keeping up the face, the appearance that is required by Thai culture. Marry that woman to a western man and what face is there to keep up now? None.

If you are out there reading this and thinking to get yourself married up to an Asian woman because she will be more submissive than a western woman, I recommend that you open your eyes a bit more and think it through. You are wrong and they will beat you at your own game and likely as not you shall become the submissive one, bowing to their every wish. Sucker.

It used to be fun. Down Soi Cowboy at Five Star jamming with the band. Wherever you find ladies and gents of the night, you find rock'n'roll and you find drugs.

Rock'n'roll and it's associated pounding rhythm seems to help them forget. They have feeling you know, these street workers, these folk of the evening. They get down and out, they get the blues.

The beat of the music pumps the girls on the go-go floor up. It is the beat of the street that drives everything of the night. "The music pumps and the speed makes ya jump" they say. The beat and rhythm giving temporary respite from life's little troubles. The music gives respite and the drugs provide temporary escape.

The most common drugs in use on the streets of Thailand amongst bar girls, pimps, hawkers, taxi drivers, lady-boys and other denizens of the night are "ya baa" or speed and marijuana. Many folk mix these two, kind of a speedball effect, similar sort of mix that killed Belushi and others. The speed ups you, the dope slows you down. Up and down.

Heroin is also popular but far less common, the users often looking burnt out and something of a give-away unless you too are looking specifically for that brand of trouble.

By far and away the most common drug on the street in Thailand is ya baa. The local speed is a crude mix, often dangerously so. Police bust it by the truck-load daily. Every night on the Thai news you can see another big pile of the rough brown tablets.

A purer form of speed is also available, a properly processed fine white crystal. But this is expensive and the cruder ya baa is preferred. The effect is much the same, it's just that the ya baa occasionally will make you rather ill.

Cocaine is available if you have substantial funds. Few of the night workers do have such funds so the sale and use of cocaine is pretty much restricted to very, very upper class and wealthy people such as the Thai equivalent of a yuppie.

Most of the girls working the bars of Thailand are using some kind of drug to keep it all happening. Alongside the common occurrence of the ya baa is the prescription drug. Many druggists in Thailand don't quite tow the line with regards to proper prescriptions and will hand out almost anything. Popular pills are diet tablets - just another form of speed - and anti-allergenics which when taken in quantity produce a mild euphoria and a mighty bad burn out the day after.

The drug smugglers and dealers also live on the darker side of the street and can often be found in the red light areas of almost any town in the world, not just here in Thailand. Sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll is not just the title of an old Drury song, it is a partnership that has existed since the first caveman tapped out a beat on his bones while his buddy humped the local ride.

By the way, if you come to Thailand to find a "good wife" - remember you are a fool for looking for such a stupid idea. Don't be a bigger fool by buying or using drugs here unless you know exactly, and I mean exactly what you are doing and who you are doing it with! You ain't seen nothin' 'till you seen the inside of a Thai jail. How's a diet of boiled rice and pigs-guts sound? Yummy.

Well, not exactly friends but let me tell you - it's out there and it kills indiscriminately. Roughly 70% of women working in brothels in the north of Thailand are HIV positive. The rate is lower in the south and around Bangkok, perhaps as low as 20 to 30%. My advice? If you must, find one girl, just one. Take her to a doctor and pay for a screening and test. Then stick with that one girl (or boy - whatever turns you on). And even then - wear a condom.

Less fatal (usually) but far more common than HIV is hepatitis. There are a variety of heps, the nastiest ones transmit via body fluids much the same as HIV, the less dangerous you can catch from somebody sneezing on you. Hepatitis C, the more dangerous of the common heps is transmitted via body fluids. What this means is that you have to get fresh, infected body fluid from an infected body and get it right into your body via cuts or broken blood vessels.

Generally speaking, you can get HIV or hep real easy if you take it up the arse. Up there in the anal tract are lots of little blood vessels. During anal penetration it is not unusual for these vessels to break open. If the inserted object happens to be a dick attached to an infected body you have quite a good chance of copping a dose.

If a woman copulates with an infected male - good chance of infection. If a man performs anal sex with another man who is infected - good chance. If a man performs anal or vaginal sex with an infected woman there is less chance of infection, given that you don't wear a hole in the dick by going at it too hard or without proper lubrication.

Then we have all those little Venereal Diseases. A neat little team of specialised diseases that hang out in the nether regions, they have played havoc with us all through history. Many a great political leader's follies have been written off to insanity caused by syphilis.

"But she was such a clean girl"…. Forget it! Heard that one before. Clean as you want to be or are, VD and other diseases have little regard for how many showers you take a day or how often you change your underwear.

The recent scares about HIV and AIDS have taken their effect on the sex industry. It has lost some of it's clients as more folk become more careful about where they hide the sausage. It has also taken away some of the "carefree, wild and fun" attitude that used to be common in the game. It is a dangerous game now, there are more diseases, more social problems, more guns and body-bags than ever before.

Guns sit hand in hand with any industry that is not quite kosher. The sex industry is no different, guns abound as do the resultant shootings and death.

Fuck with somebody in Thailand who works the industry and you may well be fucking with a gun. Slap up a Thai bar girl or boy and you may well be staring down the barrel of a gun as you contemplate life for the last time.

In Thailand shootings are common. I do believe that Thailand has one of the highest murder rates in the world. And many of these killings are born from the mouldering loins of the sex industry.

Jealous bar owners, estranged husbands and wives, brothers of beaten girls, these folk and many others may resort to gunfire to try to sort out their problems and feelings.

I have seen the guns and heard the gunshots. I've seen the black plastic body-bags with their anonymous contents. The sex industry exists on the dark side of life along with crime, drugs, crooks, conmen and assorted other human silliness. And on the dark side of life the gun is the law. A law you just don't want to argue with.

In many parts of Thailand the taxi drivers carry hand-guns under their seats, young hoods carry them under their T-shirts, business men carry them in shoulder holsters, the police in nice custom side holsters.

You don't see the guns so much, they are kept hidden like many of the aspects of this industry. But in every country where there is a sex industry - there is a drug trade and there are guns and death.

I don't really know that "conclusion" is such a good heading. Perhaps the simpler "last section" would be better. Who am I to draw conclusions? Who are you to do so? I think I will just end with one of my rants.

Men suck. I am a man and I tell you men suck big time. I am not effeminate nor gay. I am heterosexual and damned ashamed to be fucking human most of the time. Men have consistently fucked up all through history. Men are responsible for all the shit. Well perhaps with the exception of Margaret Thatcher that is to say. Oh yeah, and Mata Hari and let us not forget that total sell-out of a woman Bhutto.

But given those exceptions men seem to have a monopoly on screwing up life. Men make wars and take the sons of mothers for their sacrifices to their stinking gods of power and war. Men are driven by a physical need to fuck everything that moves. Penetrate, penetrate, penetrate their little hormones scream.

Sure, men were not so driven perhaps humans would not have propagated so much. Perhaps the human animal would not have succeeded at all. Perhaps this would have been a good thing.

If women were the dominant sex would we still have sex industries? Sure we would, women are human and although I blame men for most of the troubles of the world I see that women are just as fickle and unfaithful to their own kind as men are.

The problem is not the sex industry. The problem is us. And this "us" is mainly men. Men make the rules, men can change the rules but they don't want to undermine their own power-base.

We have all got so caught up in our social mores and rules that we appear to have forgotten how to simply love. I am guilty of this crime as indeed are you.

What we need is not an end to the sex industry, it is an end to senseless and outdated social and cultural rules that drive us all to behave like dogs. Worse than dogs.

You want to see an end to the sex industry? Compulsory penis removal? Vaginal closures? Anal restrictors?

Yeah, sure.
