This is a short list, which will grow over time,
of our own, personal favorite restaurants and eateries here on Koh
Samui. We don't intent to review 4 or 5 star places here, just the sort
of places we go to for a good meal during the normal course of events.
LAMAI
KOKOMIKO.
Excellent western and Thai food. Nice and clean set up with professional
staff behavior. The menu is extensive with choices from small snacks and
sandwiches though to full blown meals. The steaks are generous. Side
salads with dishes were very tasty. Service is very good. Prices are
very, very reasonable. Serves are generous. Fink Kokomiko on the main
ring road, outside of Lamai just before Hin Ta Hin Yai, half way down
the hill on the right side,
LAMAI FOOD COURT. Main road near
petrol station and 2 x 7/11 stores. Drive in court with about 6 to 8
different restaurant including a semi-famous duck place, they got duck
'n rice, duck 'n noodles, duck ' sweet sauce, they got duck 'n duck,
duck soup, duck salad, fried duck, boiled duck, no spam. The other
restaurants here are primarily Thai food and some good Thai Muslim food,
all good, all very cheap.
NATHON
SUNSET RESTAURANT. When in Nathon we
usually stop and eat at the Sunset Restaurant, beach front on the start
of the beach "boulevard" in Nathon. Good range of western and Thai
favorites. Personally I'd stick to their Thai food, it is exellent.
The western food is often stored frozen and microwaved to defrost, not
quite so tasty. But their "English breakfast" is pretty good. Nice garden setting
with views across the water to outlying islands and back towards Nathon
town and the ferry piers. Prices are good. Service is just OK. Sometimes
you don't always get exactly what you order, but that makes it
interesting - if you are a patient person.
TANG'S RESTAURANT. Main road in Nathon,
near the end, left side (one way road), opposite Dr Surasit. Great Thai
and Farang food, low prices, fast service, used to be 24 hours, should
still be.
CHAWENG
IL MOLINO. Main road Chaweng opposite Ko
Samui Properties. The food is great, not cheap but you really get a good
feed up for your Baht. You won't leave hungry. Home made bread too, with
any type of topping you want and they have a lot of toppings. Pizza and
all types of Italian goodies, outside garden setting, great take-away
selection.
MAENAM
ANGELA'S BAKERY. Whenever I am hungry and
near Maenam during the day, I usually go to Angela's Bakery. Great menu,
fresh cooked baked goodies, good food and reasonable prices.
THE TWINS. The Twins right in the middle of
the main part of Maenam main road. Yes, you got it, good Thai and Farang
food (I like places that do both so the spouse and I can both be happy.
